The Tank (2023)

The Tank (2023) is a slow-burn horror film that combines family mystery with classic monster horror. Directed by Scott Walker, the film centers on Ben (Matt Whelan) and his wife Jules (Luciane Buchanan), who inherit a remote and run-down coastal estate in New Zealand after the death of Ben’s estranged mother. Hoping to turn the isolated property into a new beginning, the couple uncovers a terrifying past.

When Ben opens an old underground water tank on the grounds, he unwittingly awakens a long-buried monstrous entity. As eerie occurrences begin to plague the house—disappearances, unexplained sounds, and signs of something lurking—the couple realize they have unleashed a creature that once terrorized Ben’s family.

With no help nearby and danger lurking, Ben and Jules must unravel the property’s dark history as they fight to survive the horrors lurking underground. With a brooding atmosphere, realistic creature effects, and a growing sense of dread, The Tank delivers tension and terror rooted in isolation and legacy. It’s a chilling tale of what happens when the past refuses to stay buried, and something ancient waits to resurface.
