The Wolverine (2025)
The film opens with Logan (Henry Cavill) living in isolation, having retired from his role as Wolverine. He’s haunted by past battles, the loss of friends, and his diminishing healing factor. He’s struggling with his immortality and the fading of his mutant powers. The story takes place in a gritty, dystopian future where mutants are hunted down and the world is on the brink of chaos.
Jason Momoa plays Viktor Creed, a menacing figure from Wolverine’s past with a new agenda. However, this time he’s not just another villain – he’s been enhanced by cybernetic implants, making him more powerful than ever. Viktor is working for an underground government agency that captures mutants to harness their abilities for dark, militaristic purposes.
Wolverine is pulled out of his secluded life when a group of young mutants, who’ve been targeted for capture, seek him out for protection. Though reluctant at first, Logan is forced to confront his inner demons as he takes on the role of their protector. With his powers slowly waning, he’s no longer the unstoppable force he once was, which adds emotional weight to his battles.
Viktor, now called “Omega Creed,” leads the charge against Logan, forcing the two into several intense clashes. Their rivalry is personal, full of brutal hand-to-hand combat, with Logan desperately trying to save the next generation of mutants while being pushed to his physical limits.
In the film’s climax, Logan makes a self-sacrificial move, knowing that his healing factor isn’t what it used to be. He faces Viktor in one final, bloody showdown. Logan manages to defeat Viktor by outsmarting him rather than overpowering him, but he’s mortally wounded in the process. In his final moments, Logan passes on his wisdom to the younger mutants, telling them to be better than he ever was, leaving a legacy of hope for the future of mutantkind.
