Butchers Crossing (2023) is a 2023 Western drama film directed by Gabe Polsky, based on the 1960 novel of the same name by John Williams. Plot synopsis
Set in the 1870s, the film follows a young, idealistic man named Will Andrews (played by Fred Hechinger), who leaves his life in the East to seek adventure and purpose in the American West. He arrives in the small, remote town of Butchers Crossing, Colorado, where he meets Miller (played by Nicolas Cage), an experienced and enigmatic buffalo hunter.

Miller recruits Will to join him and a small group of hunters on an expedition to track down a massive herd of buffalo in the desert. The journey takes them into harsh, unforgiving terrain, where the brutality of the hunt and the isolation of the environment push the men to their physical and mental limits. As the expedition becomes increasingly dangerous and morally questionable, Will is forced to confront the true cost of his obsession with profit and the toll it takes on his humanity.
