The temperatures might be falling, but Netflix is turning up the heat this holiday season with a new Christmastime movie we can best describe as Hallmark meets Magic Mike.
Among the newest wave of Netflix holiday movies making their way to the streaming service this fall is The Merry Gentlemen starring One Tree Hill alum Chad Michael Murray and, if the newly released photos from Netflix are any indication, it’s about to be a very holly, jolly Christmas this year.
The new film follows former big-city dancer Ashley (Britt Robertson), who sets out to save her parents’ small-town performing venue the Rhythm Room with an all-male Christmas-themed revue. Among the men Ashley enlists to help pull off this performance is Murray’s character Luke, a contractor who often lends a hand at the Rhythm Room… just never quite in this way before. The end result is a revue filled with dance numbers featuring several sexy shirtless cowboys, including Luke who is enlisted to help pull off The Merry Gentlemen show.
“We got to change things up a little bit and push the envelope,” Murray told Tudum of the film’s unique plotline. “We take a lot of the tropes that have been created for this particular genre and poke fun at them in such a tasteful way.”
While the film might not arrive until Nov. 20, Christmas has come early as Netflix has gifted us with our first look at the new release which gives fans a little tease of what’s to come including a few photos of Murray’s character Luke showing off his moves as part of The Merry Gentlemen show. As the photos hint, there will definitely be dancing involved in the show with a few dance numbers planned for the film which stems from Ashley’s decision to use her skills as a dancer and choreographer in her plan to save the Rhythm Room. Of course, what better way to do so than by marrying those skills with some hot guys and holiday fun to give fans the closest thing we’ll likely get to a Magic Mike holiday special….
